Patients are registered with the practice, not an individual GP. For administrative reasons your medical card will be issued in the name of one of the doctors; however you can at any time express a preference for a particular doctor, for either all of your medical needs or on a case-by-case basis. We will do our best to respect your choice, however not all doctors in the practice provide all services and specific doctors may not be immediately available.

Our highly trained Practice nurses assist the doctors in the Practice. They will oversee the well being of patients at regular health checks. They are also trained in the management of the following:
These nurses are responsible for attending to patients dressings, blood tests, ear syringing and the treatment of minor injuries. They can be seen by appointment between 9:10 am and 4:30 pm. Please telephone St Andrews 01334 465682 or call at the main hospital desk.
Emma is a healthcare assistant and works closely with our Practice Nurses and Doctors to provide basic procedures and patient support. Emma qualified as a healthcare support worker in 2017 and performs these duties in addition to her administrative role. Emma can perform blood tests, blood pressures, urine analysis and the fitting and removal of 24 hour blood pressure monitors. She can also perform ECGs when arranged by other clinicians.
The phlebotomists are able to take blood tests from patients requiring regular blood testing. Appointments can be made at our reception or by phoning 01334 477477.
Please do not make an appointm, ent with the phlebotomist if you feel you may need a blood test. The phlebotomists require instructions from a GP or practice nurse before taking a blood sample. If in doubt, please call 01334 477477 to discuss the need for a test with a clinician.
Health Visitor / Public Health Nurse
The role of the Health Visitor is varied. We deal with all pre-school children. Each local Primary School Nursery Department has a named Health Visitor attached to it. Blackfriars Health Visitor is the named H.V for Canongate PS Nursery. Our wider remit includes support for families and the community with a Public Health approach.
The administration and smooth running of the Practice is the responsibility of our Practice Manager. She works with our team of friendly staff who are trained to assist you.
If you are finding difficulty in using any of the services of the Practice, or have an enquiry of a non-medical nature, our Practice Manager will be pleased to help you.
Any complaints or comments about the Practice should also be directed to Lynn.
