The administration and smooth running of the Practice is the responsibility of our Practice Manager. She works with our team of friendly staff who are trained to assist you.

If you are finding difficulty in using any of the services of the Practice, or have an enquiry of a non-medical nature, our Practice Manager will be pleased to help you.

Practice Nurses

We have three highly trained Practice Nurses assisting Doctors in the Practice. They will oversee the well being of patients at regular health checks. They are also trained in the management of the following:

Asthma, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Cervical Smears, Family Planning, Ischaemic Heart Disease, Travel Vaccination & Advice, Contraception, COPD, child immunisations (with health visitor), spirometry and INR clinic.

Ruth BourneRuth Bourne HCA
Ruth is a health care assistant, and works closely with our practice nurses and doctors to provide basic procedures and patient support. Ruth qualified as a health care support worker in 2009, and performs these duties in addition to her administrative role. Ruth can perform blood tests, blood pressures, urine analysis, and the fitting and removal of 24 hour blood pressure monitors. She can also perform ECGs when arranged by other clinicians.


District Nurses

District Nurses
The District Nurses look after people who are confined to their home, but need nursing care. Arrangements can be made through your Doctor where necessary, but you can contact the District Nurses by telephoning 01334 477477.

Health Visitor / Public Health Nurse

The role of the Health Visitor is varied. We deal with all pre-school children. Each local Primary School Nursery Department has a named Health Visitor attached to it. Blackfriars Health Visitor is the named H.V. for Canongate PS Nursery. Our wider remit includes support for families and the community with a Public Health approach.

Treatment Room Nurses

These Nurses are responsible for attending to patients dressings, blood tests, ear syringing and the treatment of minor injuries. They can be seen by appointment between
9:10 am and 4:30 pm. Please telephone St Andrews 01334 465682 or call at the main hospital desk.


Phlebotomy

The phlebotomists are able to take blood tests from patients requiring regular blood testing.  Appointments can be made at our reception or by phoning 01334 477477.

Please do not make an appointm,ent with the phlebotomist if you feel you may need a blood test.  The phlebotomists require instructions from a GP or practice nurse before taking a blood sample.  If in doubt, please call 01334 477477 to discuss the need for a test with a clinician.
