Extended Hours
We understand that it can sometimes be difficult for patients to take time off from work to see a doctor here at the practice due to our opening hours and consultation times. We are therefore pleased to offer patients the opportunity to request an early morning or evening appointment. These appointments are best suited to our practice population who work between 08:00 and 18:00. Our early morning appointments run from 07:00 - 07:50 and our evening appointments run from 18:00 - 19:20. If you would like to request one of these appointments, please inform the receptionist who will be able to advise you of the next available appointment.
General information
Appointments can be made by dropping by the reception desk, or by telephoning the practice on 01334 477477.
You can see the doctor or nurse of your choice. If you feel it is medically necessary that you are seen as soon as possible, please let the receptionist know and they will endeavour to arrange the next available appointment. We offer appointments in the morning and afternoon at a range of times, including outwith normal working hours.
Appointments are 10 minutes long. If you feel your problem requires more time, please mention this when booking your appointment so this can be accommodated. If you have many things to discuss, perhaps prioritise them and some can be dealt with at a later date.
When attending the surgery we would be grateful if you could try to be punctual. As appointments are 10 minutes long, a delay in starting can mean that the consultation is rushed and you may not get a chance to deal with your concerns. If you are late or miss your appointment altogether you will be asked to make another appointment for another time, or to wait until the end of the surgery to be seen. We feel it is unfair to delay those who have arrived for their appointments on time.
We realise that we sometimes run late – perhaps due to an emergency, or a particularly difficult problem. We apologise for this, and endeavour always to see you within 20 minutes of your appointment time.
Telephone Callbacks
Can we deal with your concern on the phone? Do you need a word with the doctor, or a bit of advice? There are telephone callbacks available every day. Please ensure you have an up to date phone number. Reception staff will be able to explain this service, and see if it is appropriate for you.
Generally, telephone callbacks are unsuitable for those with hearing problems, any problem which may require examination (e.g. a rash), or where the problem would benefit from face to face discussion.
It is difficult to be exact about what time we will call back due to other commitments and urgent cases. We will endeavour to give you an approximate time.
Out of Hours cover
NHS 24 provide out of hours cover between 6.00pm and 8.00am, Monday to Friday, during Saturday and Sunday and at any other time the practice may be closed. To obtain medical advice you must call NHS 24; this can be done in several ways:
- By telephoning the practice on 01334-477477, the call will be re-directed to NHS 24
- By calling NHS 24 directly on 08454-242424
